PIGEON HOLE THIS!

Earlier this summer i had an email from BBC Radio 1's most recent essential mix dj, Doorly. For a while now i have been sending him Yoghurt Warrior tees for him to wear when playing out. His decision to contact me was made when on tour in the USA and a girl asked if she could take a picture of his t shirt (winnie the wee pants) so she could have it tatooed on her back!

Doorly contacted me because he is starting a new record label that is going to take the world by storm, its going to involve alot of industry heads so he asked me to design some t shirts for the label.

For this i designed personalised pigeon hole this tees for Annie Mac, Toddla T, Zane Lowe, Andy George, Jaymo and Jack Beats for them to wear and promote the label.

I also designed a main pigeon hole this t shirt that will soon be sold on the Yoghurt Warrior Website!! So keep a keen eye on it!

This is a brief summary by Doorly about the forthcoming label.

'It's basically a genreless label that will allow me to move with music and release tracks by myself and new artists right accross the spectrum of music, i'm putting together a roster of acts for the releases but the club tour begins in november and will be taking the uk (and the world) by storm!! i'll be calling in a lot of favours from industry pals to pull off some pretty big shit!

The first EP is just being promo'd now - its a 6 track EP of originals by me and couple of collabs and it goes on sale properly next week.

watch this space!'

Pelski presents!!

This Friday Pelski Presents returns with their third event, this time hosted by the more intimate Old Queens Head in Islington.

Once again it looks to be a big one with a smahing line up!

The event is free before 8pm and only £4 after! So nothing stand in your way!

PANGAEA

(Hessle Audio / Hotflush Recordings)

A fresh-faced Pangaea burst onto the dustep scene in 2008 with ‘Coil’, shortly followed by the punchy, rolling garage rhythms of ‘You & I’, both released on the now-famous Hessle Audio label – an imprint run by himself, Ramadanman and Ben UFO . It wasn’t long before Pangaea was being weighed up to the likes of El-B and Burial. ‘Bear Witness’ (Hotflush) and ‘Memories’ (Hessle Audio) earnt him further critical acclaim before 2010 saw him release his six track self-titled EP to even greater, unanimous praise. What stands out about Pangaea’s deep and often melancholic brand of dubstep/2-step is its warmth - whether it be provided by sweet melodies, shuffling percussion, bassy organs, gentle jungle nostalgia or dreamy vocals.

PARIAH

(R&S)

Both The Guardian and Pitchfork have likened Pariah to a 2-step incarnation of the late great J Dilla. His debut release ‘Detroit Falls/Orpheus’ dropped on R&S at the tailend of 2009 and signalled the emergence of a true talent: ‘Detroit Falls’ brings a delicious Rnb vocal folded wonkily into off-kilter Dilla hip-hop beats, whilst Orpheus displays a beautiful amalgam of clattering garage percussion and wistful, swirling soul. Pariah’s second release, upcoming on R&S, demonstrates the young producer’s versatility: snipped-and-clipped vocals are again featured heavily, but with more emphasis on UK Funky, deep and housey textures, lots of shimmering synths and shuffling beats as well as the odd nod to Detroit. A must have EP for 2010.

SDUK & CNTRST

(Slit Jockey/ Pipedown)

The formidable DJ duo SDUK & CNTRST have been ripping up the London scene with their notorious mixing and selection abilities for a few years now. SDUK recently released his bassheavy ‘Clunge’ (The Inbetweeners, anyone?) on Starkey’s label and has received support from the likes of James Blake, Baobinga and Crookers. SDUK’s partner in crime CNTRST has equally impressive mixing abilites and a mighty fine ear for all things dubstep/2step, as well as a sneaky penchant for Detroit techno. And did I mention these two fellas run the much loved Pipedown blog (http://pipedownson.com/)

RYLSKI

(Pipedown)

Rylski's the producer, following a slew of anonymously uploaded tracks on soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/rylski), who has had the dubstep and funkysouls forums making wild guesses at his identity. He'll be spinning the best in cutting-edge dubstep, 2-step and UK funky.

CHARLES DARKLY

(Pelski)

Providing the techno and house debauchery for the evening will be our resident and Pelski-cowriter, Darkly. Expect anything from tribal house to the darker side of minimal techno.

Also check out Pariah's latest mix for Fabric, pakced full of plenty of tasty, unreleased goodies:

The Daily Street- Throwing Snow

The daily street have again brought another exciting mix to our attention. Mixtape 005 is brought to you by one of the UK's hot upcoming talents, Throwing snow.

For those of you who are not familiar with the name throwing snow, rest assured you soon will be. With several releases under his belt on a broad collection of labels, some sick remixes of people including Greymatter, Gold Panda and Hyetal and most recently being able to claim the first ever release on Alexander Nutt's brand new label Ho_Tep, things are happening fast for Ross Tones. If you've heard any of his music then i'm sure that this will come as no surprise to you. Serving up a sound that draws influence from Future Garage, UK Funky, Dubstep, Wonky Hip Hop and even Post-Rock, saying that Throwing Snow is a talented producer is a slight understatement. Have a listen to his remix of Kid Kanevil and his track with Jesse Moncrief (both included in the TDS mixtape) you'll understand.
